CLARK MONTGOMERY EVENTING CLINIC

Harmony Horse Stables was excited to present Clark Montgomery for a two-day eventing clinic October 23 and 24, 2004. The weekend was cool and cloudy (especially for a guy from Virginia), but everyone had a great time riding and auditing the clinic. The theme of the weekend was, "Communication with your Horse".

Saturday was spent with riders working on the flat. Clark focused on first getting an even tempo. Then he changed things up by asking riders to lengthen and shorten their stride. Clark used a figure he called a Swedish Castle in order to help riders succeed in their task. As each lesson progressed, you could see rider and horse becoming more connected, the lines of communication were opening up.

Sunday was a little warmer and a little sunnier. This was the most exciting day of the clinic - jumping! Clark continued on with his theme of communication. He talked about how in a stadium course, most lines are set up so that they are not an exact number of strides. They have become more technically challenging so that the rider must choose how to approach an obstacle and how many strides to take between obstacles. The day continued with riders having to add or subtract strides in between jumps by lengthening and shortening their stride.

Clark Montgomery trained with 1994 World Games Eventing USET member Jim Graham from 1997 - 1999 and has been training with Karen and David O'Connor since 1999. He runs Bright Prospect Farm in Northern Virginia. Some of his other accomplishments include:
» 2001 USCTA National Young Riders, 3rd place
» 2001 International and National Intermediate Eventing Champion
» 2001 USET Lionel Guerrand-Hermes Trophy for sportsmanship and horsemanship
» 2004 Third place finish at the Jersey Fresh Two Star on Silent Faith
