You’ve been taking lessons for a while now, and your skills
have grown. What now? How about showing off your abilities in a new arena! The
Harmony Horse Stables Show Team is a great way to expand your riding abilities
in a fun, competitive atmosphere. The focus of the Show Team is on teamwork. Everyone
works together to improve everybody’s abilities. Horsemanship skills are
improved, as riders are spending time traveling with and taking care of their
horses. The Show Team is also a wonderful way to build life skills that riders
can take to college and beyond.
Riding
at horse shows is very different from riding
at home. Horses become just as excited and
have show nerves, just like us. Riders are
in the ring often with ten or more horses
and riders they do not know. They also must
be able to think and react a lot more independently.
There is no teacher standing in the middle
of the ring reminding them to change their
diagonal or warn them when they are getting
too close to another horse. Coaches are allowed
in the ring for warm-up over fences, but after
that, they are relegated to the outside. In
the hunter ring, judges do not appreciate
hearing coaches talking to the riders, and
in the dressage ring it is not allowed! To
be ready for this extra commitment, we at
Harmony Horse Stables have come up with these
recommendations in order to be properly prepared.
